Dear Visitor
The Caribbean Regional Compliance Association (CRCA) 4th
Annual Conference was another success for the Caribbean.
Many of the
regions key compliance professionals attended this two day
event to hear from the industry’s leading authorities on
risk management, compliance and the delivery of these
services to the organization. Set in the beautiful
surroundings of the British Colonial Hotel in Nassau,
Bahamas, seating was limited due to a full house of
speakers, sponsors and delegates.
High lights
from the programme “Taming Compliance: Managing The Risk
Monster” included presentations from Edo Köhlinger of
Fortis, one of Europe’s top 20 financial institutions, who
examined the issue of compliance acceptance and “buy in”
for organizations and the role of the compliance officer
to influence company culture while Bahamas Cheryl Bazard
reminded delegates to be careful not to rely on the Safe
Harbour Provisions when issues of compliance liabilities
surface.
Simon Beck
of Baker & McKenzie looked at how the U.S. tax, anti-money
laundering and securities laws are eroding financial privacy
in international financial centers and Brian Ramsey of
Amalgamated Security Services, kept the audience engaged and
thoughtful with relevant examples in Terrorist Financial
Practices.
The two day
conferences saw a full house for the keynote address from
Bethany McLean, Business Editor of Fortune and co-author of
The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and
Scandalous Fall of Enron. Ms McLean kept
delegates riveted with an in-depth look at the private world
behind the very public demise of Enron and the human tragedy
that followed.
A one
day optional workshop was offered on November 21st
that focused on the issue of records management, maneuvering
through corporate crises and navigating a company's Dawn
Raid.
Professional, leading edge and provocative, the CRCA
Conference is dedicated to providing ongoing learning to all
compliance professionals with stellar results. Here is what
our delegates had to say about the CRCA Conference 2007:
I personally would like to thank you
for telling me about this conference. I found it to be
absolutely useful and applicable to my job. I have gone
on many “compliance” conferences and they all seem to
focus on AML – I found that this conference was one of
the most comprehensive ones I have been to. The
speaker’s information was relevant to my
responsibilities and I could see immediately some things
that I now need to implement in my company.
Kudos to you and your team for an EXCELLENT conference.

I
must first of all thank you for a wonderful conference;
the committee did an excellent job. The speakers were
all very well presented and each presentation was
entertaining, stimulating and very informative. I was
most impressed with the Barbados Conference and could
not imagine there was anything else to teach but the
topic at this Conference made me aware of yet another
fascinating dimension in this fast growing arena.
