Are
Your Records Meeting Your Compliance Requirements?
In today’s electronic world, the role that records
management plays in helping organizations meeting
regulatory compliance is increasing. Sarbanes Oxley is
impacting those organizations which are traded do the
New York Stock Exchange. Privacy concerns are resulting
in more stringent legislation to control personal
information. Electronic records are now accepted as
evidence in court. But does your organization know what
records it has and how they are being managed? Are you
ready for eDiscovery?
This workshop will provide a brief overview of the
records management program components and how they can
help organizations meet compliance requirements and
improve efficiencies. Through facilitated group
discussions, participants will have an opportunity to
assess their current records management activities and
develop a high level strategy to address any gaps that
exist in the organization.

Managing Risks: Information Management Matters: The old adage, “What I
cannot see would not hurt me…” has never before, in the
history of the world, been further away from the truth
than it is today. In this Information Age, the evidence
of our activities, present or past, professional or
private, is now also recorded in electronic format. Even
more significant is the pace at which the various
platforms and media for the storage of electronic
records change. Are the people managing these electronic
records aware of the vulnerabilities associated with
these new technologies?
Some other important question that could be asked:
“Where do these electronic records come from; and, are
they stored in other formats?”
“Can this record stand up in court?”
“How can I ensure that my information will be
protected?”
These are challenges that Caribbean Risk Managers,
policy-makers and information professionals across
several productive sectors are grappling with. Whatever
the nature of business, it must be recognized as a vital
underpinning, that the development of a strategy for
managing recorded information across all platforms (both
traditional paper-based and electronic) is paramount.
That strategy must conform to the prevailing legal
mandates, as well as reflect management practices and
technological options.
What participants will gain:
This workshop is designed to provide the participants
with knowledge, insights and methodologies that they can
utilize in their organizations to ensure industry best
practices recordkeeping and legal compliance.

Dawn Raids - Are You
Ready? You arrive early for work because of critical
deadlines and targets to meet; you think there are not
enough hours in your day. On arrival at the office you
discover representatives of the authorities with a court
order. Having listened to what is said, you realize it
must be serious; after all, a court has issued an order!
You are the only person there and consequently believe
you are accountable.
Who are they? What do they want? What is your response?
What is your organisation’s policy? What initial action
do you take? What type or category of court order is it?
Are there other unknown risks? Is it possible to prevent
this kind of probing enquiry?
Visits of this type are not uncommon. In the course of
this interactive session, we will discuss the issues to
assist in navigating a path to a satisfactory conclusion.
