Ian C.
Whan Tong is the Group Legal Counsel for Cayman
National Corporation Ltd., the parent company for
the largest financial services group based in the
Cayman Islands, providing banking, trust and
corporate, fund administration, investments and
securities brokerage, and insurance brokerage
services to both local and international clients.
As the chief legal officer, Ian is a senior member
of management, and is responsible for, oversees, or
advises on the legal affairs of Cayman National.
Previously, Ian was Chief Policy Officer at the
Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (implementing
electronic reporting for hedge funds, bank licensing
policies, and revising AML guidance), and had also
practiced general corporate-commercial law at a
local firm. Before moving to the Cayman Islands, Ian
litigated commercial and regulatory cases for 8
years in Toronto at Fasken Martineau, one of
Canada’s largest premier law firms.
Ian earned his AB from Princeton University, and his
MPA and LLB from Dalhousie University in Halifax,
Canada. He is admitted to the bars of Ontario and
the Cayman Islands, and is CAMS certified. Ian is
also a part-time lecturer at the Cayman Islands Law
School. |
