Belinda James
Ms. Belinda James is a proud national and resident of Trinidad and Tobago. She is an Attorney-at-law of 30 years’ standing and an experienced Compliance Professional. Belinda holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (Upper Second Class Honours) from the University of the West Indies, Cavehill, Barbados Campus, and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School, St. Augustine, Trinidad. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom. Belinda started her career in 1994 at Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Limited in the Legal and Corporate Secretarial Department and moved to Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Limited in January 1999. She spent 14 years at Scotiabank and had responsibility for the provision of Compliance, Legal and Corporate Secretarial Services. Since June 2013, Belinda has been the Regional Head, Regulatory Compliance and AML at RBC Financial (Caribbean) Limited, based in Trinidad. In this role she leads a team of professionals who delivers a full range of compliance-related activities to the 9 Caribbean jurisdictions that RBC serves, including developing and maintaining expertise in Regulatory and Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing Compliance matters. Belinda is also responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with RBC’s regulators across the Caribbean and facilitates opportunities for partnering on compliance efforts through consultation with RBC Business Heads. In her spare time, Belinda serves as a member of the Board of Management of Bishop Anstey Junior School, the Board of Directors of Bethesda – For Persons with Disabilities and more recently, she assumed the position of President of the Association of Compliance Professionals of Trinidad and Tobago. For many years, Belinda was a part-time lecturer at the University of the West Indies, teaching Advanced Banking Law. She is currently a moderator for the Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad and Tobago.
