Nicole Samson

Personal Information

Nicole D Samson BA, MA, LLB, Senior Trial Lawyer, Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, the Netherlands. Between 2006-2012, Nicole successfully prosecuted the first case brought at the ICC against Thomas Lubanga for war crimes committed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and between 2013-2018 she led a successful prosecution against Bosco Ntaganda for war crimes and crimes against humanity also committed in the DRC. From 2017, Nicole headed the investigation into alleged crimes in Burundi. Since 2021, she heads the unified team investigating alleged crimes in Libya. Prior to joining the ICC, Nicole spent six years at the Toronto, Canada office of Fasken Martineau specializing primarily in complex commercial litigation cases. Nicole is an alumnus of Mount Allison, Queen’s, and Dalhousie Universities in Canada, she also studied at l’Université de Strasbourg in France and the National University of Singapore.  She is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
